Hi, I purchased Holyiot 21017 nRF52840 board from aliexpress due to having the integrated high gain antenna in a simple USB case.

Board info:
http://www.holyiot.com/eacp_view.asp?id=336

It seems that board comes with Nordic bootloader instead of the Adafruit so it doesn't support getting into DFU mode and it doesn't show up as a simple USB drive that I can just copy .uf2 file onto.

Seems that the programming for this board needs to be done via nRF Desktop and the only option for flashing files there is to target .hex file.

Are there any plans to support .hex files as well?

Much appreciated for the great project!

Yes, I can update the CI to output the hex files as well

Do the hex files here work?

I don't think it works
flashing the .hex file works without issues, but then plugging the openpuck into a PC simply doesn't light up any led + can't see the openpuck in any way in the device manager or steam

If it uses Openboot, try my branch for a Raytac device: #137

Sadly it doesn't work, the only documentation for this board is here

Holyiot-21017-nrf52840.pdf

so basically it only supports .hex or .zip files to flash, uses the nordic bootloader (so not the adafruit one that can drag'n'drop uf2 files)

as per the docs, softdevice should be 0x9D (s132_nrf52_5.0.0)

@brettp could you please try making one for the Holyiot board? It looks all neat and should have a great antenna, would be much appreciated!

@backdraft254-stack - s132 appears to target the nRF52810 and nRF52832, not nRF52840. You'd need to confirm the chip and then check the memory ranges for the application data for that version of the softdevice. You can build with nrfutil by passing in the correct firmware --sd-req and --sd-id values like in the Makefile. You could also try provisioning up to s140 if you're certain the chip is 52840, which would probably be the easiest route if it works.

the chip is definitely nRF52840 as that is listed on the docs, I reached out to Holyiot company and they confirmed the same, not sure why they specify s132, but it is what it is

nrf Connect Desktop also confirms its a proper board, just has the Nordic DFU instead of adafruit UF2 one, just not sure about the green application regions not matching up

yeah, something is definitely wrong here, either during the installation or really bad luck with 2/2 boards so far not working with openpuck fw

bought a new nRF52840 MDK USB Dongle

this one supports .uf2 so simply drag and drop flashes the board, but afterwards, dongle doesn't show up in openpuck webUI under the connect window at all (tried 2 different win10 machines, both Chrome and Edge, multiple USB ports)

its strange that when plugging the dongle into a PC, no sound is heard like when plugging a new USB device, nothing shows up in the device manager

@safijari @brettp any help in getting this working would be greatly appreciated boys!

I recently bought one of these dongles as well and I wasn't able to get it working either. It just doesn't show in WebUI and I tried multiple computers with no luck :(

@safijari could you please re-open this issue, its clearly not fixed and the sooner we get some more users with different boards to get the traction on this, the sooner we can fix it

@backdraft254-stack @DraconicNEO I'll be able to look into this more in the next week or so. Since I don't have this hardware it'd help if you can provide any logs of what you tried, the output of the makefile commands, and any errors.
