I have reached the step in the quickstart guide where you run python3 lutristosunshine.py, but then it asks for my username/password and doesn't accept them. I have confirmed that my credentials are correct. Here is what I see when I try to enter my credentials.

❯ python3 lutristosunshine.py
[sudo] password for adamr:
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo username: sunshine
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo password:
Error: Authentication failed. Could not obtain a valid session.
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo username: sunshine
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo password:
Error: Authentication failed. Please check your credentials.
Error: Could not obtain valid authentication. Exiting.

I’m using the stable sunshine from Lizardbyte’s repo

Edit#1: I do have it using non-default ports (10000), though I am not sure if that would impact this.
Edit#2: I tried reverting to the default ports (47989) and am still getting the authentication failure

Default port for webui is 47990, that's probably it.

I'll make this more easily configurable.

@Arbitrate3280 commented on GitHub (Mar 27, 2026):

you can now override the custom host and/or port with:
--sunshine-host: override the Sunshine or Apollo web UI host for auth and API requests
--sunshine-port: override the Sunshine or Apollo web UI port for auth and API requests; this is usually 47990

you're looking to use the same port you use to access the webui.

please test it and let me know if it has fixed the issue for you

Thanks for getting back to me!. My Susnhine web UI is at localhost:10001. When i try
python3 lutristosunshine.py --sunshine-port 10001
I still get the following

Enter your Sunshine/Apollo username: sunshine
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo password:
Error: Authentication failed. Could not obtain a valid session.
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo username: sunshine
Enter your Sunshine/Apollo password:
Error: Authentication failed. Please check your credentials.
Authentication failed using Sunshine at https://localhost:10001. Configure a different web UI host or port and try again? [Y/n]: n
Error: Could not obtain valid authentication. Exiting.

I wasn't sure how to use the --sunshine-host flag as I am not sure what counts as my SUNSHINE_HOST

hmmm so weird, have you installed the python requirements? pip install -r requirements.txt

what's your distro?

@arichman00 commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):

I am using CachyOs (so Arch). I used paru to add python-pip, but when I run pip install -r requirements.txt I get the following

❯ pip install -r requirements.txt
error: externally-managed-environment

× This environment is externally managed
╰─> To install Python packages system-wide, try 'pacman -S
python-xyz', where xyz is the package you are trying to
    install.

If you wish to install a non-Arch-packaged Python package,
create a virtual environment using 'python -m venv path/to/venv'.
    Then use path/to/venv/bin/python and path/to/venv/bin/pip.

If you wish to install a non-Arch packaged Python application,
it may be easiest to use 'pipx install xyz', which will manage a
virtual environment for you. Make sure you have python-pipx
    installed via pacman.

note: If you believe this is a mistake, please contact your Python installation or OS distribution provider. You can override this, at the risk of breaking your Python installation or OS, by passing --break-system-packages.
hint: See PEP 668 for the detailed specification.

so instead is just used paru to install python-evdev, python-requests, and python-pillow. Was that not an acceptable substitute?

I apologize for not getting back you you sooner! I was having a lot of problems with plasmashell crashing on Cachy so I tried Fedora and your standard setup on GitHub worked without issue. If I ever end up going back to Cachy I can try the binaries and report back to you. Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 31, 2026, at 8:44 AM, Arbitrate3280 @.***> wrote:Arbitrate3280 left a comment (Arbitrate3280/LutrisToSunshine#13)
