Is there any way that gyro could be mapped to the trackpad? The way that gyro is measured is extremely similar to mouse DPI, if this were possible it would be an amazing implementation.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Aug 2, 2026):
Are you looking to output a gyro axis (e.g. to Switch) by moving your finger on the trackpad?
@riverslime commented on GitHub (Aug 2, 2026):
Yes, if x and y gyro were somehow mappable to the same movement of the trackpad mouse you would have 1:1 mouse movement in gyro compatible games.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Aug 2, 2026):
That sounds super interesting. I suppose if I'm doing that I should also implement trackpad to joystick
@riverslime commented on GitHub (Aug 2, 2026):
Are you pulling directly from valves implementation? Because "as joystick" is far preferable (personally) to the regular joystick implementation if so. Applications that use SDL like Eden actually will use the "as joystick" implementation by default which is quite nice.
If either the trackpad to gyro or as joystick are implemented though would there be any way to adjust the sensitivity on the users end?
Sorry to comment bomb you but I'm quite passionate about steam input and even in its current implementation this is the coolest 1 dollar I've spent!
@riverslime commented on GitHub (Aug 2, 2026):
As far as my understanding goes as well gyro is even measured in DPI when it comes to sensitivity.
I thought about the trackpad to gyro because in games where gyro is not supported, the second best option is actually to bind gyro to mouse. It's identical in performance when compared to true gyro. I figure if this is the case it would track that the inverse would also be true.
I've heard of people binding mouse on emulators to gyro to get similar results to what I'm imagining.
