Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/safijari/openpuck/issues/191
PC specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sJDJVF
OpenPuck versions tested: 0.9.28 and 0.9.31
OpenPuck firmware tested: Standard
Board used: https://a.co/d/0050S2Fz
In Steam Controller mode, gyro aiming in games that natively support it (Death Stranding 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered tested) is really choppy, and basically unusable; putting the controller into DualSense Mode immediately fixes the problem, and gyro aiming works perfectly. Weirdly, manually enabling Gyro to Mouse in Steam Input works fine in Steam Controller mode.
In addition to the gyro issues, also in Steam Controller mode, haptics don't seem to be working correctly. There's no haptic feedback when the triggers are fully depressed or when GripSense is activated; swapping the OpenPuck board for the official Puck that came with the controller immediately resolves these issues.

This is most likely related or same issue as 163
@pedrovay2003 commented on GitHub (Jul 26, 2026):
Yeah, I commented there, too. I definitely think the haptics thing is related to that issue, but the gyro thing is completely different. It's very odd that it only happens in Steam Controller mode, and only with native gyro, not if you use Steam Input to map gyro as a mouse.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
I don't own either game unfortunately. Is there another game you can suggest to test this?
@Supster131 commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
You should be able to test this in non-native gyro games as well, such as Portal 2 with the Motion Control preset. I’ve also noticed controlling the camera via gyro or the trackpad feels choppy.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
Does everyone affected have Teyleten boards?
Do you see this issue in PS5 or switch pro modes?
@pedrovay2003 commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
As far as gyro goes: I haven't tried Switch Pro mode, but in DualSense mode, it's perfect. Every game that I try that supports native gyro from PlayStation controllers works great with Steamless Controller as a DualSense. (Games I tried off the top of my head: Resident Evil 4 remake, Pragmata demo, Helldivers 2, Death Stranding 2, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered)
@Supster131 commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
I haven’t tried other modes, I’ll test it out when I have the time later. This was both with a Teyleten board and a generic board.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
Ok. If gyro works great in other modes but not in steam controller mode then it's unlikely to be a board issue.
@Supster131 commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2026):
So I went ahead and tried the PS5 Mode and gyro felt fine.
