Wakes as normal if in Steam controller mode.
If I accidentally forget to switch it back and put the pc to sleep while on Xbox mode it does not wake up.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2026):
Interesting. I just validated on my computer that it was waking on all other modes. Can you give more details about your setup?
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2026):
I have the puck set to remember last mode so it doesn't default to steam controller mode.
I'm also using the system standby option from steam big picture mode if that changes anything.
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jun 19, 2026):
I guess one other detail would be I have OpenPuck paired to L1+A not sure if that makes a difference or not.
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jun 19, 2026):
Just shut off persist mode to check, doesn't make a difference. Same result.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jun 20, 2026):
Can you check if #58 makes a difference?
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jun 20, 2026):
Same with #58
If the machine goes to sleep with the puck in steam controller mode. Wakes up fine.
If I put to sleep while it's in Xbox mode, nothing.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jun 23, 2026):
ok that's odd and not something I'm experiencing, lemme try to repro
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jun 24, 2026):
I also tested it on my laptop just to check. Same results.
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jun 29, 2026):
I just did a sanity check and this might be part of my problem:
Persistence is off and this is the description on the webusb - Off (default): every restart / fresh reconnect boots into Steam mode.
This is not how it behaves, when I shut off the controller and turn it back on, it reconnects as an xbox controller immediately, so it's not going back to steam controller mode.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jul 3, 2026):
That's because the board stays powered. That has to be the case because otherwise it will lose the usbwake it's armed with.
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jul 4, 2026):
Is there anyway it can detect the controller not connected switch back to steam controller mode, because it doesn't wake in any other mode.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jul 4, 2026):
No because that would also cause it to lose the armed USB wake
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jul 4, 2026):
Well, to be fair it already loses usb wake on xbox mode. I've tried it across 3 PCs now just to make sure I'm not crazy lol.
@safijari commented on GitHub (Jul 4, 2026):
I know my point is that the correct design isn't to try to switch modes but to try to see why some modes aren't doing wake for your situation (last I checked I could wake my PC in Xbox, DS5, and Switch pro modes)
@frank-giugliano commented on GitHub (Jul 5, 2026):
So a bit of an update. On my laptop running Fedora I was able to enable the function by setting:
However, there's not a way to do this on window. My pc specifically is using S3 sleep.
I ran this through fable to see if it had any ideas and it came up with 2 possible options but I'm not sure if either are possible:
(a) give Xbox mode its own VID/PID so the composite splits normally, and steer only the vendor interface to xusb via a Microsoft OS descriptor with the XUSB20 compatible ID; the wake mouse then binds and arms exactly like Steam mode.
(b) auto-revert to Steam mode after all controllers have been disconnected for N seconds (with the Xbox preference persisted and restored after the next wake+reconnect), so the identity presented during sleep is the wakeable one.
